On a landmark evening in May, VH Designs had the distinct honor of transforming the Fairmont Chicago into a shimmering tribute to a century of theatrical excellence. The Goodman celebrated its 100th anniversary for which we were thrilled to design an immersive experience worthy of this iconic milestone.

A Color Story with Meaning

The color palette was a rich and regal combination of purples, golds, and silvers. Purple—long associated with royalty—was chosen to symbolize the centennial itself, honoring The Goodman’s enduring legacy as a pillar of Chicago’s arts and culture. Gold and silver accents added opulence and shimmer, enhancing the sense of celebration while highlighting the timeless glamour of live performance.

A Grand Entrance

Guests arrived to cocktail hour and were greeted by dramatic palm arrangements. A red carpet lined the walkway to a sequin photo op featuring their new re-branded logo. The sequins shimmered under the twinkling light of the ballroom’s chandelier.

A Walk Through History

As guests moved on to dinner, they were welcomed with a dramatic entrance installation featuring life-sized photographs from Goodman productions throughout the years. The marquee lights were inspired by the traditional proscenium theater style. A journey through the past 100 years of storytelling, artistry, and impact. It served not only as a visual retrospective, but as a reminder of the countless voices and visions that have shaped the Goodman stage.

A Stage Worthy of Applause

The centerpiece of the ballroom was a massive, hanging, illuminated Goodman logo suspended behind the band. This striking piece created a powerful focal point during the evening’s entertainment and became one of the most photographed moments of the night. The star of the stage? None other than Tony and Grammy Award-winner Leslie Odom Jr., who delivered an electrifying performance.

Design With Purpose

Beyond the beauty and celebration, the night carried a powerful mission. Proceeds from the gala benefited The Goodman’s education and engagement programs, helping to ensure access to the arts for the next generation. We are proud to have once again contributed to a night that not only honored the past, but also invested in the future.

Here’s to 100 years of brilliance, and the beautiful stories still to come.
